This week I visited an old friend.  It’s been awhile since I’ve seen my friend; indeed we haven’t been together since I got my scooter.  I was afraid my friend would no longer want me around, that my old friend could no longer handle the new me.
Boy, was I ever wrong.  My old friend  used our time apart to grow and expand.  What had been a narrow room crammed with rickety tables and chairs had doubled in size, added booths, and wide aisles.
Fellow Warriors, let me present my old friend--the new and vastly improved:
BISCUITS
Biscuits is located at the far west corner of the strip mall immediately west of Broad Ripple High School along Broad Ripple Avenue.  It has always had a wide ranging menu and has added a full service bar.  When I say wide ranging, I am exaggerating a bit (well, maybe more than a bit).  If you visit Biscuits you would do well to be hungry for either Mexican or breakfast food.  Somehow this combination really works for me.
When I was last there for dinner I had the three cheese omelet, link sausage and toast.  My wife had two eggs, bacon and three enormous pancakes.  I think I like the food better than does my wife, but she is ever indulgent.
There is in large parking lot serving the restaurant, but it also serves all of the other establishments located in and around the center.  I counted 8 handicap parking spaces along the sidewalk adjoining the various businesses.  We ended up in a spot furthest from the front door to the restaurant, but the weather was not unpleasant.
There is an outer and inner door providing entrance to Biscuits.  As is the norm, there was no automatic door opener.  One of the wait staff was quick to offer help in navigating the doors.  Once in the restaurant, it was easy to get into the new room which features booths.  Transfer into a booth was smooth.
Getting to the bathroom was made easier with the assistance of a staff member who moved empty tables a few inches to allow me to pass.  It was a straight shot to the men’s room.  The women’s restroom appeared much more difficult to reach.  The men’s room was adequate in that I could get my scooter all the way In and shut the door.  The grab bar was well placed.  The bathroom was not, however, large enough for me to turn my scooter around.  It took some doing, but I was able to back out and, again with the help of a staff member back up to a spot in the restaurant where I could turn around.

Everyone should have a place close to home where you like the food, prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly.  For me it’s Biscuits.  When I’m tired, and no one wants to cook, it’s there waiting for me.  Access is far from perfect, but is so much better than I had feared.   2 ½ scooters
