Steve's ALS Restaurant Review #11

Max & Erma’s
Late afternoon last Wednesday we were driving home from playing bridge with friends.  We decided to stop at Max & Erma’s instead of going right home.  Why there?  Mainly because we had just passed it on the highway, had not been to one in years, and were both hungry.
The restaurant is located at 12195 North Meridian.  Because of the changes in U. S. 31, access is from Pennsylvania Street.  Get off 31 at the 106th Street exit, go to Pennsylvania and turn north.  Start looking on your left side and you will find it.
There is plenty of handicap parking close to the front door.  Access through the front doors is easily accomplished—so long as you are with a loving partner.  Not an automatic door opener anywhere in sight.  You will be greeted and seated by a hostess.  And, if you are there in the late afternoon on a Wednesday (as we were) she will be an absolutely delightful young student from Carmel High School who could not stop smiling.  Her happiness was infectious.
The aisles are wide and the booths are plentiful.  It was easy for me to get seated.  Max & Erma’s menu is typical bar food.  Shareable appetizers, salads, a wide variety of sandwiches.  There are some dinner items, but I do not think that is the point.
Our service was good, the prices reasonable, but the food was just so so.  Nothing to write home about—so I won’t.
So far, a pretty humdrum review.  But wait, there’s more!
The men’s room was GREAT!!  Easy to get to, a door that was light and opened with just a touch from my scooter.  The handicap stall was spacious and well appointed.  (grab bars within easy reach) I could access the sinks.  Exit from the stall and the bathroom were a joy.
CONCLUSION: Max & Erma’s is a reasonably priced chain restaurant with a predictable bar food menu, good access and a GREAT bathroom.  My recommendation: go for a hamburger, stay for the bathroom.
2 ½ scooters
Stop the presses!!
Each of my reviews has something unpleasant to say about the absence of automatic door openers.
Found an MCL with what I had been looking for.  It was a wonderful experience.
All I had to do was visit grandchildren in Columbus, Ohio in order to find a restaurant with automatic door openers.
You’re welcome.
